Microsoft Office 2007 to be
released at end of 2006 |
Microsoft has recently
announced it will be releasing
Microsoft Office 2007, which
will carry seven different
versions. These seven versions
mirror the
multi-product-version strategy
that Microsoft is using with
Windows Vista. Windows Vista
is the upcoming Windows
Operating System upgrade. |
|
Microsoft Enterprise 2007
leads the pack of the 7
versions. Here are the names
of the other versions:
Office Professional Plus
2007, Office Professional
2007, Office Small Business
2007, Office Standard 2007,
Office Basic 2007, and
Office Home and Student
2007. There will be some
changes to some of the
versions as well. Office
Home and Student 2007 drops
Office Outlook, but gains
the Office OneNote 2007
note-taking application and
can be used on as many as
three PCs in any home, not
just homes with students or
teachers. Office Enterprise
2007 builds off of Office
Professional Plus 2007 and
includes OneNote and the
Office Groove 2007
peer-to-peer collaboration
solution. Similar to Office
Professional Plus 2007,
Office Enterprise 2007 will
be made available only
through volume licensing. |

SyncToy for Windows Xp |
Microsoft has recently released SyncToy v.1.0 as a free download on the Microsoft Download Center which is a user friendly customizable application that helps users copy, move, rename, and delete files between folders and computers. |
|
Why is this useful? There are all sorts of files that are used by your computer: digital cameras, email, cell phones, camcorders, PDA’s, etc. Moreover, computer users have different folders, drives and even computers as a means of storing and organizing all these files. This can become a large, tedious and overwhelming manual operation. SyncToy basically takes over the heavy lifting with a few clicks of the mouse and some easy customization. SyncToy can manage multiple sets of folders at the same time; it can combine files from two folders in one case, and mimic renames and deletes in another. Unlike other applications, SyncToy actually keeps track of renames to files and will make sure those changes get carried over to the synchronized folder. SyncToy can be very useful for users with lots of data that would like to take a load off their time spent on syncing files and other file movement.

Windows XP – Keeping Personal Folders Secure
and Private when Sharing a Computer |
If you share your computer with other users and you have Windows XP as your operating system, and you have a password protected account, you have the capability of keeping your personal folders secure and private. Here are a few simple steps to make your folders password protected -
Right click the folder that you want private, then simply click on Properties. Go to the Sharing tab and check, “Make this folder private,” and then click on Apply. |
|
Now, if you do not log into your account with a password and you follow these same steps, you will be prompted with a window that will ask you if you want to assign a password to that particular folder. Consequently, you must click Yes in order to make the folder private. You will then type in your password and click OK. Now from this point on, no user shall be allowed to access your private folder without knowing the password assigned to that folder.
