| Support for Windows 2000, Windows XP SP2 ends next July |
|
Microsoft will stop providing support for Windows 2000 (Client & Server) and Windows XP SP2 on July 13, 2010. What it means is users of Windows 2000 (Client & Server) and Windows XP SP2 will not get support and Microsoft will not release any security updates, performance patches, service packs or other non-critical upgrades for Windows 2000 and Windows XP SP2.
The next step will be to upgrade to a newer version of Windows such as Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP SP3, Windows Server 2003, or Windows Server 2008 (for Windows 2000 Server users). Users of Windows 2000 cannot directly upgrade to Windows 7, so they have to install Windows XP first , then upgrade to Windows 7.

| Google Favorite Places |
|
Google introduced “Favorite Places” on December 8th for small businesses by sending 100,000 unique QR Barcode stickers across the US. The barcode sticker is a decal, which says “We’re a Favorite Place on Google.” The QR barcode sticker is found on the premises of the business and can be scanned with most camera-equipped phones. It will allow users to get more detailed information about the place. After scanning, the barcode takes you directly to the “Place Page on Google,” where you will get info about the business, other consumers’ reviews and a map of the surrounding area. In order to scan the barcodes, users will have to download an application on their mobile devices such as BeeTagg, NeoReader, or QuickMark.
For BlackBerry phones, a scanning application, ScanLife, is available through BlackBerry App World. For some “Favorite Places” in Washington, DC, click on the following link and then scroll to the picture of Washington DC and click on it - http://www.google.com/

MiFi can be configured to automatically synchronize emails and will support a virtual private network connection (VPN). It is built with a good battery that gives up to 4 hours of life for active usage and 40 hours in standby mode. It also has built-in security features like WPA2-PSK and WEP encryption, and an SPI (Stateful Packet Inspection) Firewall to monitor connection against Wi-Fi intruders.
The download speed depending on the plan from the carrier and availability of Evolution-Data Optimization (EV-DO) in the Mobile Broadband market can be 250MB and 5 GB. Currently, the most prominent carriers for MiFi in the market are Verizon and Sprint.
